THE CHRONOLOGY
„Slavia Backgammon Club“ was established on the 2nd of June 2002, by a group of „Slavia Sofia“ supporters, crazy about the game. The original idea was the tournament fee to be used for new flags for the „Slavia Sofia“ Ultras. But for a long time there was no money left, so this idea never got realised. Instead, the small amounts collected, have been given as a reward to the Top 3 players in the annual championship. The first 3 years, the tournaments were played at „Slavia Sofia Stadium“, either in the common room, on the terrace or in the restaurant. The next 2 years it was organised 100 meters away from the football statium. In 2007 the club didn’t organise any tournaments but instead it was involved into the production of the famous Bulgarian movie, related very much to backgammon, „The World Is Big And Salvation Lurks Around The Corner“. Since 2008, the tournaments have always been organised in Sofia City Centre.
TRADITIONAL MIXED TABLA 2nd of June 2002 is also the day when the first official weekly traditional mixed tabla tournament was organised. 4 players did participate and the name of the first winner was Nikolay Prokopiev. Ever since, we have organised just under 600 weekly live tournaments and 19 annual championships. 16 times the champion was „Slavia Backgammon Club“ player. The record holder is Bogidar Iliev, who has won 15 championship titles. 183 players have attended our championships and 51 of them have won a weekly tournament.
MODERN BACKGAMMON
In 2015 two of our players attended international backgammon tournaments and since 2016 modern backgammon became the 2nd official discipline in our club. „Slavia Backgammon Club“ team is organising once a year „Slavia Open“, a free of charge online tournament.
